UPDATE (28 January 2019): We have now confirmed that the Umitaka Maru is berthed at Macquarie Wharf 4. Please meet at the gate to Wharves 4 and 5.

**********

Umitaka Maru, a training and research vessel operated by Tokyo University of Marine Science & Technology, is visiting Hobart again after her annual expedition to the Antarctic Waters.

AJS-TAS is pleased to have the opportunity for our members, friends and the Antarctic community to visit and tour the vessel at Macquarie Wharf. The meeting time for the visit will be at 2pm on Tuesday 29th January 2019. We will not know at which wharf the vessel will berth until the day before. We will advise you (via email) as soon as we're aware.

Please wear flat, enclosed shoes on the day (strictly no sandals or high-heels). Please also note that no photography is permitted in the wharf area and that everyone entering the wharf will need to have provided identification (at time of registration).

RSVPs are essential. Please register for this event by Monday 21st January 2019. It is advised to register even if you are uncertain about the availability at this stage, as without pre-registration you will not be allowed to get on board.

A short film chronicling the ships voyage from 2017 is available on YouTube.

We will also host a BBQ Shinnenkai (New Year Party) welcoming the students, scientists and ship’s personnel together with AJS-TAS members, friends and the Antarctic community. Please register separately for the BBQ here.
