CELEBRATING YAMAZAKI AND HAKUSHU JAPANESE WHISKY
Destination Cellars is excited to continue the celebrations of Japanese whisky superstar SUNTORY's 100 year Anniversary with some ripping age statements from their famed Yamazaki & Hakushu stables. An evening not to be missed. Lock the date in: Friday November 17th at 7pm in the elegant surrounds of the RACV Hobart Hotel.
They are offering a bucket list experience as they will have $5000 dollars of Japanese whisky on offer as we try side-by-side the famed 18 year old, 12 year old, and Distillers Reserve expressions of both Yamazaki and Hakushu.
Here's the line up of Japanese whisky on tasting:
Yamazaki 18 Year Old Single Malt Japanese Whisky - Exceptionally Rare Japanese Single Malt Whisky. One of the world's most sought after single malts. Made from 100% malted barley, this 18 year old expression is produced in copper pot stills and aged in casks of three different kinds of oak: around 80% of the whisky is matured in sherry butts, while the remaining whisky spent its years in American and Mizunara oak casks. An absolutely stunning whisky. Intense, elegant and complex.
Hakushu 18 Year Old Single Malt Japanese Whisky - this is an obscenely well balanced, complex and flavoursome 18 year old Japanese whisky from the Hakushu distillery, a malty, fruity whisky of real quality. Orange, pear and a dry smokiness. Fruit salad. Patisserie sweet, baked goods and baked goodness! Long and fruity with Manuka honey with subtle smokiness. A fantastic Japanese whisky that hits all the right notes, this example shows more sherried notes along with sour orange zest, tropical fruit, and subtle smoke.
Yamazaki 12 Year Old Single Malt Japanese Whisky - One of the world's most awarded and loved Japanese single malts. Made from 100% malted barley, this 12 year old expression is produced in copper pot stills and aged in casks of three different kinds of oaks: American, Spanish and Japanese. Balanced, elegant and complex.
Hakushu 12 Year Old Single Malt Japanese Whisky - This wonderful 12 Year Old expression has won multiple gold medals across all spirit shows around the world. This stunning malt has all of the floral and delicate notes we expect from Japanese whiskies, a big juicy malt entry leads to an oily, toasty and toffee sweetness with some alluring smokiness to finish.
Yamazaki Distiller's Reserve Single Malt Japanese Whisky - A fresh and fruity whisky from Yamazaki, full of red fruit and a touch of sherry cask. It's also got some Mizunara (Japanese oak) matured whisky in the mix, which comes through as a complex spicy and almost incense-like note.
Hakushu Distiller's Reserve Single Malt Japanese Whisky - This single malt has all of the floral and delicate notes we expect from Japanese whiskies. A green and crunchy entry in the Hakushu Range, combining whisky of a wide variety of ages, from across the range of casks used by the distillery to create a gently smoky dram, packed with fruity flavour.
