Join us for the 2025 Hanami Trail!
This year’s event is bigger and better! Sakura, aikido, haiku and art.
This is a free event for everyone, and this year's hanami event at Deloraine will be even bigger and better than ever before, as we join with the Japan Club of Tasmania, Aiki Kai Australia, and other special friends. You can join us for the whole day at both venues, or just part of the day.
The trail starts at Tenchi Farm Dojo (Google Maps here), an Aikido dojo in the Meander Valley. From 11 -11:30am, students will perform a demonstration of Aikido. **We kindly ask that you arrive by 10:50am**
From 11:30-12pm, Ron Moss will perform Haiku at the Dojo amidst an exhibition of his ink paintings.
At 12:30pm, the second part of the event begins as we move to the East River reserve of the Deloraine Riverbank Reserve (on Google Maps here) for our annual Hanami picnic, which runs until 3:30pm. Here, we will spend a relaxing afternoon enjoying a picnic beneath the cherry trees. Lisa Sensei will provide Sumi-e equipment to practice Japanese calligraphy, too.
Please bring your own food and drink, as well as a picnic blanket and any seating you may require. We encourage you to bring a snack to share with other picnic-goers. Please arrange your own transport between venues, and to and from Deloraine.
We look forward to seeing you in Deloraine and let’s enjoy お花見 (cherry blossom viewing) together!
NOTE: If bad weather is forecast, we may make a late decision to postpone or cancel the event. Any such decision will be made at least 24 hours in advance and will be communicated via email and on the Australia-Japan Society of Tasmania Facebook page here.
